Social Care Council at Citizens’ Assembly for NI

The Social Care Council’s interim Chief Executive, Patricia Higgins, has presented to the very first Northern Ireland Citizen’s Assembly.

The new initiative is giving local people the opportunity to help break the stalemate on contested policy issues and put citizens from Northern Ireland at the heart of decision-making.

Involve’, a UK public participation charity, brought together a group of 77 people – selected at random, from across Northern Ireland - to discuss the topic of adult social care.
Other expert contributors included: Sean Holland from the Department of Health; Pauline Shepherd, Independent Health Care Providers and Charlotte McArdle, Chief Nursing Officer
Patricia Higgins welcomed the opportunity to outline to the participants the role of the Social Care Council, key issues facing the sector and plans underway to address them.
A further Citizen’s Assembly weekend will take place later in November, where the participants will make recommendations for local decision-makers on the future of social care in Northern Ireland.
