 Maria Somerville to Provide Carer’s Insight on Health Minister’s Transformation Advisory Board

Maria Somerville – a long standing member of the NISCC Participation Partnership has been appointed as member of the Health Minister’s Transformation Advisory Board which will oversee the direction and speed of reform to deliver the Minister’s vision, ‘Health and Wellbeing 2026, Delivering Together’. Maria will provide valuable insight for the project board and will help ensure services are restructured to meet service user and carer needs.

Health Minister, Michelle O’Neill announced the establishment of a Transformation Advisory Board to oversee the direction and speed of reform and a Transformation Implementation Group to manage the implementation of the transformation set out in the Minister’s vision, ‘Health and Wellbeing 2026, Delivering Together’.

The Minister said: “Health and Wellbeing 2026: Delivering Together’ provides a roadmap for radical transformation in the health and social care system. Given the size and scale of the challenge ahead we need to start now to properly plan, implement and embed the whole-system transformation. That transformation begins with the leadership and structure to drive change, with the involvement of service providers and users.”

Membership of the Transformation Advisory Board includes:
o Michelle O’Neill (Chair)
o Richard Pengelly (on the Board in his role as Chair of the Transformation Implementation Group)
o Professor Rafael Bengoa (Chair of the Expert Panel)
o Mairead McAlinden (member on the Expert Panel)
o Maria Somerville (user representative)
o Brian O’Hagan (user representative)
o Seamus McAleavey (community and voluntary sector rep)
o Trade union rep nominated from the NIC-ICTU Health Committee

The role of the Transformation Advisory Board includes leadership of the transformation of health and social care services, providing a forum for the ongoing input of wider stakeholders and relevant independent experts and offering advice to support the Ministerial decision making processes.
