NISCC Registered Workforce to Reach 40,000 as Social Care Worker Registrations Pass 12k Marker

NISCC compulsory registration for social care workers in domiciliary care ,day care and supported living settings could reach as many as 15,000 workers. To date, 12,064 registrations have been approved, with another 2,500 in process.

NISCC Chief Executive Colum Conway said:

“The number of people in this part of our social care workforce has exceeeded orginal estimates of 12,000 and is likely to reach 15,000 when we complete this phase of compulsory registration. When the final registrations are approved, we will have a combined workforce of around 40,000 social care workers and social workers signed up to the NISCC Standards for their Conduct and Practice. People who use social care services, their carers and families can have confidence that their social worker or social care worker is committed to providing high quality care and is accountable for their own professional standards.”

“Registering this diverse workforce has been a huge challenge and we would like to thank all those who worked with us to achieve this. Registration is the first step in developing the skills and standards we need throughout social work and social care. We look forward to working with our partners to shape the workforce to meet the increasingly complex care needs of our communities.”
