which saw 176 Social Workers from across Northern Ireland, receiving awards for their learning and self-directed study.
The event was the first that our Chair Paul Martin has attended in his new role for NISCC and he highlighted his experiences of how local social work developments have benefited those in Central and Eastern Europe, where he has worked extensively. He also stressed the need for our local social workers to be better recognised for the critical role they undertake and to take great pride in the valuable services they provide.
Also speaking at the event was our Chief Executive Colum Conway, who commended those receiving awards and all social workers in Northern Ireland for the outstanding work they deliver each and every day in protecting the most vulnerable in society. He also promoted the need for continuous professional learning and development within the sector, which he said was core to consistent high quality practice.
Other participants included the Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh District Council, the NI National Director of Action for Children and representatives from our Participation Partnership, Health & Social Care Trusts and local universities.
