Social Care Council publishes Strategic Plan to support safety, quality and improvement in social work and social care

25 August 2023

The Northern Ireland Social Care Council (the Social Care Council) has published its Strategic plan 2023-2027, alongside its Business Plan 2023-2024.

After a public consultation, and having received thoughtful feedback from its stakeholders, the Strategic Plan will inform the Social Care Council’s work over the next four years, with a focus on continuing to protect the public, while also supporting the social care and social work workforce.

The Strategic Plan is supported by a Business Plan which sets out the workplan for each of the Social Care Council’s four strategic priorities. The Business Plan supports the Social Care Council in the delivery of its strategy, and provides an overview of its workplan for 2023-2024.

The four strategic priorities for 2023-2024 are:

– Delivering effective regulation.
– Developing the capability of the workforce.
– Leading with influence.
– Innovating and improving.

The Business Plan sets out how the Social Care Council plans to deliver each of its strategic priorities over the coming year. The work in its first year will continue to reinforce the value of social work and social care to our communities.

Patricia Higgins, Social Care Council CEO said:

Social work and social care matter to us. Our new Strategic Plan enables the Social Care Council to respond more quickly to the rapidly changing health and social care landscape It will shape our work for the next four years as we seek to make a difference for registrants and the people who use social work and social care services.

We look forward to working with registrants, employers, those who use services, families, carers, our partners and those across health, education and justice sectors to deliver what we have promised in our new strategic plan.

We will report what we achieve each year in our Annual Report.
