Social workers and social care workers have the right to take part in lawful industrial action, including strike action and should follow their union’s advice when doing so. The Standards of Conduct and Practice for social workers and social care workers continue to apply while taking part in industrial action.
It is important that social workers and social care workers talk to their employer if they have any concerns about the provision of social work and social care services being more challenging than it would usually be. We also expect that employers will be planning for continuity of services during this period of industrial action. Social work students should seek advice from their educational institution and trade union about whether they are able to participate.
In the event that a social worker or social care worker is referred to us, we would like to reassure registrants that we take into account the context of practice when reviewing concerns.
