New podcast episode: Molly’s story - Social support as social care

24 July 2024

For some people being able to live as independently and safe as possible in their own home is not straightforward. However, many people can access support to help them from social care.

In a new episode of ‘Care to chat’ out during the week where we launched our ‘Social care – making a difference’ campaign , host Dr Wendy Austin MBE and guests discuss social support as a very different area of social care and demonstrates how special relationships can be for those that access this support at a crucial time and for those that give it.

Teresa Miles, Social Care Manager, Belfast Central Mission, and her staff member Support Worker, Rebecca Simpson, alongside mum of three, Molly Lappin together share their story of finding suitable housing for Molly and her family, and why Molly, now as a result is considering a career in social care herself.

Teresa Miles summed up the importance of the kind of support Belfast Central Mission provides people like Molly and her family.

“The joy of our project is that it is very person-centred, it’s all about the service users. So, we take their lead…nearly in a way they are our manager. Whatever they want, we can advise and support them to take that route, whatever way they want to go down.”
