The Northern Ireland Social Care Council (the Social Care Council) is recruiting a Chief Executive with a recruitment campaign starting this week.
Speaking about the importance of this appointment to the future of the regulation of the social work and social care workforce, Gerard Guckian Deputy Chair of the Social Care Council said:
“The new Chief Executive would have the opportunity to help shape the Social Care Council’s future and influence the standards of practice for Northern Ireland’s 49,000 registered social workers, social care practitioners and social care managers.”
The Social Care Council is the regulator for social workers and social care practitioners in Northern Ireland. It is a public body established by the Department of Health (DoH) to support high quality standards of social work and social care.
“There are a number of exciting pieces of reform work underway and this key post will have a vital and highly significant role to play,” Mr Guckian said.
“The Chief Executive will be in the position to really make a difference to social workers and social care practitioners, and lead the organisation and work with the Social Care Council Board to deliver regulatory and strategic advice to stakeholders.”
Reforms including implementing a new Social Care Workforce Strategy, in collaboration with the sector and the DoH, a review of the standards of conduct and practice, and ensuring social work leadership and education is a top priority are just a few of the challenges the new Chief Executive will be able to take forward.
Mr Guckian added: “Most importantly, the new Chief Executive, will help us champion the work of social workers and social care practitioners and the difference they make to people’s lives. If you are interested or wish to be inspired I would encourage candidates to read our social work stories and social care stories. These are the people who we work for and with, helping them to make that important difference.”
“I would encourage anyone who thinks that they meet the criteria for the role and believes that they can make a positive contribution to the Social Care Council, to apply.”
