Join us for this Lunchtime Seminar focusing on the link between humans and animals, presented by Andrea Lynch and Rebecca Stephens of the Links Group.
There is considerable evidence highlighting the significance of the human-animal bond and how this connection influences people’s decisions regarding their animals, including how they can be used and abused. Social workers are uniquely positioned to recognise and inquire about these relationships as part of their routine practice, especially since pets are often regarded as family members. By adopting a framework that considers the welfare of both humans and their animals, we can create opportunities to improve interdisciplinary collaboration to safeguard everyone, regardless of species.
This seminar offers an introduction to “The Link” between the abuse of animals and people and how social workers can respond safely and appropriately whilst providing support in these circumstances. This seminar will help you to better understand;
- Why attention to companion animals matters in social work.
- How ‘the link’ is relevant in social work and how animals are used as a strategy of coercive control.
- Relevant theories and legislation applicable to understanding ‘the link.’
- Basic animal welfare and what to notice during a home visit.
- Strategies for developing a human and animal-centred practice framework.
All of the Social Care Council Lunchtime Seminars are free and open to anyone to take part in. Just click on the button below to reserve your place.
