Social Care Council system upgrade - Notice of May downtime

As part of our ongoing maintenance and improvement program, the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (the Social Care Council) regularly apply upgrades and enhancements to our systems. At times during these works, we are required to take our online services offline. Due to a planned system upgrade, our online registration services for social workers and social care workers through ‘My Portal’ will not be available from:

Thursday 4 May 2023 to Monday 15 May 2023 inclusive

This work is part of our ongoing efforts to improve the services we provide to registrants and employers and set ourselves up for future demands. 

For anyone who is due to pay an annual registration fee or renew their registration during this period, don’t worry, you can still progress your registration before the downtime, and during the downtime you can continue to work and will not be removed from the public facing register. However, you will need to pay your fee or complete your renewal once online services are restored by 31 May 2023.

These measures give us more time to ensure the new system upgrade is in place and functioning as expected, whilst providing registrants with adequate time to complete their fee payment and/or registration renewal.

We have communicated directly with every registrant and employer about this and will keep you updated.

We are still here to support you. You’ll find lots of helpful resources on our website that can also help answer your questions.

During the system upgrade our phonelines will remain open to provide general guidance and advice should registrants and employers have any concerns or issues.  No amendments to register data will be possible during the system downtime period, but the advisory line will be available Monday to Friday 10am-12pm and 2pm – 4pm by calling 02895 362600. Registrants, employers and endorsers can also continue to use the dedicated registration email:
