The Social Care Council is a partner in the Skills for Care and Development’ (SfCD) UK Alliance – the Sector Skills Council for those working in social work, social care, early years, children and young people's services. We work with key partners and professionals in Northern Ireland and across the UK to ensure workforce learning and development is a key element for organisations providing social care services. Together we are developing a workforce that is innovative, skilled and sustainable; one that fosters economic growth and sustainable communities across the UK.

With our partners, we regularly review and improve qualifications and occupational standards for the social work, social care, early years, children and young people's workforce. We also has a statutory responsibility to approve and regulate standards for social work training at Degree level and in the Professional in Practice Framework.

Federation for Industry Sector Skills and Standards (FISSS) Code of Practice
The FISSS Code of Practice is a mark of quality awarded to trustworthy skills development organisations. As a set of minimum standards, the Code confirms that the organisation’s work is representative, impartial and sustainable for the long term health of the sector it represents.
The Skills for Care & Development partnership has been assessed as meeting the FISSS Code of Practice, as has the Council in its own right.
Achieving the Code demonstrates our status as the trusted employer-led organisation for shaping standards, qualifications, apprenticeships and career pathways in the care sector.
The Code recognises that the organisation provides reputable leadership for skills and career development, and is able to represent employers’ collective views on skills issues to policy makers and governments across the UK.
