Industrial Action

10 November 2019

We are aware that industrial action short of a strike and strike action is planned.

Like many other professions and workforce groups, social workers and social care workers have the right to take part in lawful industrial action, including strike action.

For social work and social care registrants taking part in such action, the standards and behaviours set out in the Standards of Conduct and Practice continue to apply.

For social workers and social care workers not taking part in industrial action, we recognise that they may need to use their professional judgment, in accordance with the Standards of Conduct and Practice, to assess risk and find the best way to provide care for people who use services. In these circumstances registrants should seek the support of their employer.

System alert – Public Facing Register

We are aware of a technical issue affecting a number of registrants who are unable to view their registration status on the Public Register Facing Register (the Register). Employers are also experiencing this when they are using the Register to look up the details of registrants. We are working to resolve this. Affected registrants should continue to work whilst their record on the Register is updated. If any further information is required by an individual registrant or employer, please email: registration@niscc.hscni.net.
