Social Work and Social Care Research Conference report now available

13 May 2026

It was a great privilege for the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (the Social Care Council) to host the 13th Annual Social Work and Social Care Research Conference in March.

This annual conference brought together so many different innovators, including social workers, social care practitioners, those with lived experience, carers, as well as practitioners from other professions, policy-makers academics, managers and researchers.

A special report summarising the conference programme is now available.

In the report you will find a conference round up, keynote speaker presentations, a special message from Social Care Council Chief Executive, Tracy Reid and conference convener Anne McGlade.

Take some time to read and reflect on this report and help celebrate the success of this year’s conference, one of the biggest held to date, and discover why events like this, which open dialogue and discussion, are so important to continue the best practice for social work and social care.

Updates on next year’s conference, including the save the date, and further information on our next steps for our research activity are also available.

A special conversation…

Also, in the report we share a very special conversation. A key highlight of the event was an interlude with Brian Symington (MBE) and John Carberry (MBE). This was delivered with British Sign Languate (BSL) provided by Karen Clements, and is a must watch – you can view the video below.

You can find out more about the research the Social Care Council helps to facilitate on our website here.
