Social Work Student

The Honours Degree in Social Work is the recognised professional qualification for all Social Workers, as well as for Probation Officers and Education Welfare Officers in Northern Ireland.

The Social Care Council is responsible for approving the Degree in Social Work courses in NI. We regulate the standards for taught modules and Practice Assessment.

The Degree in Social Work providers are as follows:

Queens University Belfast (QUB) – Undergraduate Route (3 Years)

Queens University Belfast (QUB) –  Relevant Graduate Route (2 Years)

Ulster University at Magee (UUM) –  Undergraduate Route (3 Years)

Ulster University at Magee (UUM) – Relevant Graduate Route (2 Years)

Belfast Metropolitan College (BMC) – Undergraduate Route*

South West College (SWC) – Undergraduate Route*

Open University (OU) – **

*The third year of the Undergraduate Route (UGR) provided by BMC and SWC is undertaken at Ulster University, Magee (UUM).

** The Open University degree programme in Northern Ireland  is at present restricted to students who are being sponsored in their practice by their employing agency. Entry to the degree must be through your employing agency; you cannot apply direct to the OU
